Aging Society

Open to the new experience … Songlay Se-Ruen

Last issue we took you to know Lumphun province which is full of culture, art, and conservative architecture. In “ASA CREW” journal, issue 08, we again have an opportunity to introduce you the architecture in another region. This time ASA southern region (Taksin) will lead us south to Songkhla “Songlay Se-Ruen”, one of Thai ancient city that is forwarding to be the world heritage. Besides of learning about the fascinating old town area of Songkhla, the interview with some interesting southern architects will also be revealed in this issue according to the intention of the Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage to show the realization of the significance of Thai architects in every region of our country.

Behind the Scenes of the Royal Pyre for Cremation Construction

The ASA CREW team and The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage are proud to share this compilation of photographs behind the scenes and explanations of the design and construction of the very regal royal pyre for the cremation of the revered late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

In this issue, readers will learn about the work of architects and artists who continue to practice Thai traditional architecture to preserve Thailand’s national architectural identity.

We, of the ASA CREW, have endeavored to produce this architectural journal for both Thai and foreign readers as an act of homage and expression of our deepest condolences and sense of loss on the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Architects for the Society

In this “ASA CREW ” journal, issue 05, we would like to introduce the work of architects, artists, and designers which have the purpose to be immensely useful for the society. They are works created with capabilities of art, photographing, cooking, buildings renovation, landscape design, and architectural design to support people’s better living in every level.

These are some examples to show the value of architects, artists, and designers. They don’t create only beautiful objects but also create a better living for the society now and in the future.

The core value of designers’ work is sometimes hard to understand. In this free journal “ ASA CREW issue 04”, the main content is about unwrapping the thought of designers, to allow our readers to understand the design thinking process.

In this issue, I invited abroad student to write about the architectural institute she is studying at, to describe the thinking method in developing new generation architects. I hope this can be useful for Thai teachers and architect students in architecture school. We will give space for Thai architects and students who work or study abroad to participate more in ASA CREW.

The change about social media of the Association of Siamese Architects is not only this free journal , but also the new website – www.asa.or.th, for members and anyone who wants to contact our members through the“find-an-architect” menu.

As well as the ASA Application, which added materials and products information, will help architects search for catalogues more easily on mobile phones or tablets. We did all this to keep up ASA CREW team’s core value as a media center between architects, designers and the public in Thailand.

OPEN HOUSE

 

After the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal patronage released the first and second issue of the free journal “ASA”CREW” nationwide, the team received lots of great recommendations from fellow architects and friends from all over Thailand. Like I have said in the second issue, “Taking something new always bring excitements”

For the third ASA CREW issue, the content is crafted to match the theme “Open House” to be consistent with the theme of the Architect’17 Exposition on May 2-7, 2017, which is “BAAN BAAN: Reconsidering Dwelling”. The ASA CREW team has made improvements in many ways regarding this issue, such as more content and easier reading for non-architects and designers. Also, we redesigned the journal to be more vibrant, suiting the vacation atmosphere of the Songkran holidays.

The team would like to thanks all our readers for the suggestions and welcomes. We would like to invite you to meet us at ASA CREW booth in the Architect’17 Exposition to get to know our association’s new digital media content.

Fresh Start Taking on something new always brings an excitement.

It is the same for us, the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage, in publishing this free journal, ASA CREW. An architect career has such a variety of stories to share, from creative design, perspectives in the surroundings around us, thought process, way of living, and aesthetic consideration along with functionality and taste. ASA CREW wants to present our readers an interesting and charming view of architects, so you can sense how an architect “think”, “see”, and “work”.

We hope that “ASA CREW” will be another journal that brings enjoyment and knowledge to our readers, and we hope you readers feel like getting to know a new friend who will soon become your close friend.
